Tom Izzo Football Building
Michigan State University officially dedicated the Tom Izzo Football Building on April 13, 2024. A 65,000-square-foot-addition and renovation to the Skandalaris Football Center and Duffy Daugherty Football Building, the $67.75 million Tom Izzo Football Building is a state-of-the-art facility that focuses on a transformative experience of player development through three primary areas:
- Performance - with an expanded 19,000-square-foot weight room, a sports science area, and multiple nutrition stations
- Rest and Recovery - with renovated athletic training areas and recovery modalities
- Enhanced Social Experience - with a new player locker room, lounge and Nike Gear Lab
The Tom Izzo Football Building has been honored with a 2025 Build Michigan Award, recognizing the project's excellence in design, innovation and execution. The project transformed the existing facility into a world-class training center with state-of-the-art recovery spaces and cutting-edge technology.
Breslin Athletic Training Facility
Expansion of the athletic training room supports the men's and women's basketball programs and provides cutting-edge health and wellness for Spartan student-athletes.
Construction was completed in time for the 2024-25 basketball season.
The project highlights include a significant increase in overall rehab space, allowing for a more spacious and functional environment. Additionally, the facility features more treatment tables and taping stations, enhancing its ability to accommodate more student-athletes. The lighting has also been improved, creating a brighter and more welcoming atmosphere. One of the standout features is the creation of an all-encompassing hydrotherapy area, that includes two large hot and cold plunge tanks capable of treating multiple student-athletes simultaneously. Furthermore, the area houses a self-contained hydrotherapy system with an underwater treadmill, providing advanced therapeutic options for rehabilitation.
Spartan Tennis
The new Spartan Tennis center will include new outdoor courts and enhanced spectator seating. It will be located near the current indoor facility.
The improvements will include the addition of six new hardcourts, complete with utilities, landscaping, and grading. A new walkway will connect the indoor and outdoor courts, providing convenient access for student-athletes and spectators alike. The locker rooms will be upgraded to accommodate both men's and women's teams. Enhanced seating will also be added to improve the spectator experience. In addition, the demolition of the existing hardcourts will allow for their repurposing, with the proposed plan designed to support future growth and expansion of the facility.
