Spartan Points
Spartan Points reward the longevity of athletic season ticket members and the generosity of Michigan State University donors to determine priority for athletic-related opportunities.
Annual opportunities, such as seating at bowl games and post-season tournaments, as well as home game parking, will first prioritize Spartan Fund annual donor level and then Spartan Points as a tiebreaker within the donor level. Periodic opportunities, such as the men's basketball seat adjustment, will be based on cumulative Spartan Points total only.

*We strongly encourage you to consult your tax advisor(s) to determine the deductibility of all gifts you make to or for the benefit of MSU, including, without limitation, those gifts that are included in the determination of your Spartan Points.
**Includes the amount of seat premiums. Effective January 1, 2018, seat premiums are no longer tax deductible.
Understanding your spartan points
Consecutive years as a
season ticket member:
Three (3) points will be awarded for each consecutive year of season ticket purchase in your name for men's basketball, football, ice hockey, women's basketball, volleyball, men's and women's soccer, baseball, and softball. Years of purchase will be determined based upon data available through the Spartan Ticket Office. If a year of purchasing season tickets is skipped, your consecutive years as a season ticket member will drop to zero (0). If re-purchased in a later year, your consecutive years as a season ticket member would begin back at one (1). The purchase of “Go Green” Cards or student season tickets will not count toward season ticket purchase.
Lifetime giving to Athletics:
One (1) point will be awarded for each $100 gift made to MSU Athletics (Spartan Fund), including the amount of seat premiums (effective January 1, 2018, seat premiums are no longer tax deductible). Please consult your tax advisor(s) for details.
Athlos Society membership:
The Athlos Society is Michigan State Athletics' leadership giving society, recognizing Spartan Fund donors making philanthropic commitments of $50,000* or more (separate from seat premiums); gifted over 5 years.
- 3 points per $100 gifted will be awarded to Athlos Society members at or above $250,000 commitment level;
- 2.5 points per $100 gifted will be awarded to Athlos Society members with commitments between $50,000 and $249,999.99
Consecutive years as a Spartan Fund donor:
Two (2) points will be awarded for each year of consecutive Spartan Fund membership (formerly the Ralph Young Fund). If a year of donating is skipped, your consecutive years as a Spartan Fund donor drops to zero (0). If re-joining in a later year, your consecutive years as a Spartan Fund donor would begin back at one (1) when you rejoin.
Lifetime giving to University:
One (1) point will be awarded for each $1,000 gift made to the university (excluding athletic gifts).
Irrevocable planned gift to Athletics:
One (1) point will be awarded for each $1,000 of the charitable deduction allowed as a result of a charitable gift annuity (CGA) or a charitable remainder trust (CRT). Contact Spartan Fund to discuss and document your charitable remainder trust so you may determine your available points.

Donor Benefits
The greatest benefit of being a Spartan Fund donor is the knowledge that your generous gift provides opportunities to pursue excellence for our nearly 700 student-athletes in the classroom, in competition, and in the community.
Gifts made to MSU Athletics during one fiscal year (deadline of June 30) - whether it be to a facility project, endowment, premium seating, varsity sport and/or unrestricted - accumulate to provide you a donor level for the upcoming athletics season (beginning July 1). Example: John Spartan gives a gift of $1,000 on May 15, 2021, $600 of which is designated towards his Zone seats for football and another $400 provided to the Women's Basketball program. His cumulative gift of $1,000 provides him a Captains Club donor level and associated benefits beginning July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022.
Please note, with an earlier football parking selection process and the Men's Basketball Seat Adjustment, the deadline to make contributions, including seat premiums, that effect Spartan Fund membership level and Spartan Points is May 1.

Annual Benefits, such as donor parking, individual game tickets, post-season tickets, and special event invites are allocated based on two factors in order to equitably serve and prioritize Spartan Fund donors:
- 1st - Annual Spartan Fund Donor Level
- 2nd - Spartan Point Ranking within Annual Spartan Fund Donor Level
Periodic benefits, such as seat adjustments, are allocated by cumulative Spartan Points Ranking in which the individual with the highest number of Spartan Points has the first priority and so on.
